Background and context

Stomata are tiny pores on the leaves that are responsible for the exchange of gases and transpiration. The opening and closing of stomata are controlled by the turgor pressure of the guard cells. Stomata are open and close in response to various abiotic factors such as light, humidity, carbon dioxide levels, and temperature and biotic stress such as invasion of pathogens.
