The amino acids are coded by 3 nucleotides. They are known as the triplet codon or the genetic code. 20 amino acids are naturally synthesized. These amino acids have to be coded by the 4 nucleotides available. Only if the genetic code is a triplet, then we get 64 possible combinations of the triplet codon to code for all 20 amino acids.
