Background and context

Eukaryotic ribosomes consist of two subunits that are unequal. They are 60s and 40s. These subunits contain ribosomal proteins of dozens that are arranged on the scaffold of ribosomal RNA (Ribonucleic acid). During translation, the larger subunit performs as an enzyme and links between amino acids for forming polypeptides.
