A box plot is constructed from five values: the minimum value, the first quartile, the median, the third quartile, and the maximum value.

The skewness of the data, the dispersion of the data can be understood from a boxplot. A data is symmetric if the median line is roughly in the middle of the box. If the longer part of the box is to the right of the median line, then the data is right-skewed and if the longer part of the box is to the left of the median line, then the data is left-skewed.
