Introduction

Competition is a conflict in which numerous parties fight for a single, unshareable goal, with one’s success being the misery of the other (an example of which is a zero-sum game). Species, people, social and economic groups, and other entities may all have rivalries. Competition can be fueled by a single goal, such as recognition (e.g. awards, goods, mates, status, or prestige), domination, client base, specialized and rare commodities, or an area.
