Eggs also called ovum, are haploid female gametes, necessary for producing a new individual in order to continue the generation of species on the planet. Eggs are produced through a process called oogenesis, in which a series of mitotic (equational division) and meiotic (reductional division) cell divisions occur to produce haploid gametes.
