Background and context

Glycolysis which is the first step of cellular respiration that takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell is an anaerobic process that occurs in all organisms. The carbohydrate, lipid, and protein catabolic pathways are linked to this glycolytic pathway for the release of energy from them.
