Background and context
Ribosomes mainly consist of two kinds of subunits. The large and small subunits. Each of the subunits consists of ribosomal or rRNA molecules, one or more than one in number. Also, each subunit contains ribosomal proteins. The associated molecules, along with the ribosome, are termed translational apparatus.
