Background and context
Viruses differ in terms of structure, mode of replication, host, and target cells. Viruses are non-cellular as well as parasitic and have no internal organs, metabolic processes, or plasma membranes. Virion contain either DNA or RNA, an outer layer of protein, or sometimes an outer membrane made of a phospholipid membrane that is derived from the host cell and proteins.
