Background and context
Like other vertebrates, the human cardiovascular system is also made up of the heart, lungs and blood vessels, all working together. It helps to exchange the nutrients, gases, wastes and hormones around the body. The heart pumps blood into blood vessels, which take it to the different capillaries.
