Background and context

The organization of the body of an animal into a spherical structure is referred to as radial symmetry, such that cutting it from anywhere longitudinally will always yield two mirror images. Coelomates do not show radial symmetry.

 

On the other hand, the organization of an animal's body into definite right and left halves is referred to as, such that a mirror image can only be produced when the body is divided longitudinally down the center.
