Background and context
The process of photosynthesis involves two phases, namely the light reaction and the dark reaction. In the light reaction, the energy from the sun is used to excite the electrons from the reaction center. A series of reactions in the light reaction produces ATP and NADPH. The end products of the light reaction participate in the dark reaction. The Calvin cycle is the main component of the dark reaction, where carbon dioxide molecule is reduced to carbohydrate molecule.
