Dalhousie University is located in the beautiful harbour city known as Halifax. With 250 years of history and the world's second largest natural deep water port, Halifax is situated on Canada's Atlantic coastline. In addition, Halifax is a leading tourist city due to its beautiful sceneries and pleasant climates. As a bustling yet a calm and quiet city, Halifax also serves as the financial, economic and research center for several Eastern Canadian provinces. Residents of Halifax are known for their kindness and enthusiasm. Dalhousie's largest campus, Studley campus, came about after the Halifax City Hall moved to the Freestate Building in 1886. The campus is located on the southern tip of Halifax and covers an area of 60 acres. Downtown Halifax is located to the east of campus and the Atlantic coast is located a few blocks south of campus.
Founded in 1818, Dalhousie is a well-known public university with reputable faculty members. The university offers more than 180 bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. Arts and science students have the opportunity to complete a joint bachelor's degree in partnership with King's College. Dalhousie also awards a Bachelor of Agriculture degree offered by Nova Scotia Agricultural College. With more than 3,600 courses, the university offers students a unique curriculum in architecture, bioengineering, business, community design and food science. As a leading research institution in Eastern Canada's Atlantic region, Dalhousie has more than $100 million in research and development funding each year, and hires many of the world's best marine scientists. The university also hires many students every year to work as research assistants on laboratory projects.
Dalhousie is a Canadian public university with a long history and a prestigious academic reputation. It is ranked as one of the top ten universities in Canada by Maclean's Magazine. It is also the largest and most prestigious university on the East Coast. Dalhousie's intensive and diversified academic research has attracted many international students from around the world. More than 900 faculty members at Dalhousie University are world-class authorities who have cultivated many outstanding talents, including two Canadian prime ministers, the first female judge of the Supreme Court of Canada, and first female astronaut of the world. Dalhousie's small classes, research institutes, and state-of-the-art science and technology buildings are the university's most distinctive features. In 1997, Dalhousie's strength in science and engineering research was enhanced by incorporating the Nova Scotia University of Technology. Today, Dalhousie has more than 17000 students, 5750 faculty members, and 1700 staff members and offers more than 125 undergraduate, graduate and graduate degrees in architecture, engineering, management, science, law, dentistry, medicine, liberal arts and social sciences.
