About The College of New Jersey

Founded in 1855 as the New Jersey State Normal School, the College of New Jersey went through a number of forms before attaining its current status in 1996. IT is consistently ranked as one of the most competitive schools in the nation by Barron's Profiles of American Colleges.


The College of New Jersey is a highly selective public liberal arts school with an enrollment of just over 6500. The college occupies nearly 300 acres in suburban Ewing, New Jersey. It is under an hour from New York City and Philadelphia. Because the college is so small they are able to emphasize collaborative learning between faculty and students. In this way, the liberal arts core can be explored more fully as students learn to question and work with concepts and ideas.


The academic rigor of The College of New Jersey has made it possible for many of their graduates to find places in elite graduate schools including top-ranking Ivy League schools. The college boasts a 64% acceptance rate at top medical schools and an 89% acceptance rate at law schools.


By way of entertainment, the suburb of Ewing offers an assortment of restaurants and shops. If students do not want to leave campus, the university boasts their own Campus Town and 'The Shoppes at 31 and Main.' The college actual maintains their own little market economy with a number of shops and restaurants right on campus.
