The University of Buffalo (UB) is the largest and most comprehensive school within the State University of New York system. The University at Buffalo (SUNY-Buffalo) consists of three campuses: North Campus, South Campus, and the City (Downtown) Campus. The school was founded in 1846 and in 1962 it was incorporated into the State University of New York system. In 1989 University at Buffalo was invited to join the Association of American Universities. According to the Carnegie Foundation, the school is classified as a comprehensive University of doctoral research, and is listed as a national star University. School alumni and faculty include a number of astronauts, Nobel Prize winners, and Pulitzer Prize winners.

The school has over 30,000 students, with 21,000 undergraduate and 9,000 postgraduates. The school's sport teams are called the Buffalo Bulls and the school mascot is a blue bull with a gold nose ring named Victor E. Bull. Some of the notable alumni from the school include Wolf Blitzer of CNN, CEO of Baidu, Robin Lee and Millard Filmore, the 13th President of the United States.

SUNY Buffalo's library is one of the largest in the State University of New York system. The library system includes the Architecture & Planning Library, Charles B. Sears Law Library, Health Sciences Library, Libraries Annex, Lockwood Memorial Library, Music Library, and Oscar A. Silverman Library. In addition to the Digital Collection Center, the Multimedia Collection Center, the Map Collection Center and the Special Collection Center. The Library's facilities are the Help Desk, Silent Study Area, Group Study Area, Computing Center and Printing Center. In the library building, there are usually shops selling coffee and snacks. Vending machines are also available everywhere. In addition, in the North campus, whenever the test season comes, they usually hold stress relief activities, massage chairs, therapy dogs, and even free coffee to help destress during midterms and finals week!
