HUMB2009 Final: RESPIRATORY 6
Document Summary
Change in colour and volume of sputum. Bronchogenic carcinoma: most common, most common type = squamous carcinoma, atelectasis, hilar enlargement, cavitation in upper lung. Pulmonary metastases: any location of the lungs, snow-storm nodules, also very common. Bronchial adenoma: obstructive pneumonia not real but an affect of the tumor, can cause peripheral atelectasis. Discrete, well marginated rounded opacity less than or equal to 3cm in diametete. No associated lymphadenopathy, atelectasis or pleural effusion. Calcifications diffuse, central, laminated or popcorn. Other risks include: radiation, asbestos, pulmonary fibrosis, genetic factors. 4 major histological subtypes: non small cell carcinoma. Dense hilum sign increased in density due to adenopathy of calcification. On left - pet ct can see the lesions more, vessels going in, can see contrast entering signs of malignancy.
