EDUC109 Study Guide - Final Guide: Refraction, Specular Reflection, Diffuse Reflection
Light
-Light travels and tends to maintain its direction of motion until it interacts with an object/ material. Light can
be observed, redirected, bounced back, or allowed to pass through.
-Your eyes then transmit this information to your brain via the optic nerve which then interprets the electrical
signal as light of a particular color and intensity.

Mirrors
- In the daytime, light reflects off your body in all directions. That's why you
can see yourself and other people can see you. Your skin and the clothes you’re
wearing reflect light in a diffuse way
Rays of light (photons)shoot through the glass and hit the silver coating
behind it.
- The light will reflect off the mirror in a more orderly way than it reflects off
your clothes. We call that specular reflection—opposite to diffuse reflection.
Document Summary
Light travels and tends to maintain its direction of motion until it interacts with an object/ material. Light can be observed, redirected, bounced back, or allowed to pass through. Your eyes then transmit this information to your brain via the optic nerve which then interprets the electrical signal as light of a particular color and intensity. Green: myopia= image in front of retina. In the daytime, light reflects off your body in all directions. Mirrors can see yourself and other people can see you. Your skin and the clothes you"re wearing reflect light in a diffuse way. Rays of light (photons) shoot through the glass and hit the silver coating behind it. The light will reflect off the mirror in a more orderly way than it reflects off your clothes. We call that specular reflection opposite to diffuse reflection. The combination of all the wavelengths in the reflected light registers in our eyes as red.
