Writing up the academic or formal report - front end and body. Form follows function: how your expression can (and should) change as the writing"s purpose changes. Research report = a formal written document used to provide concise information on a specific topic. Structured to guide the reader through the main points: avoid use of personal pronoun, headings and contents need to be on the same page i. e. avoid widows and orphans. Title page: use of a separate page = good, title = concise, complete (indicate what is in the report) and snappy. Title page needs --> title, author (me), affiliation, date (e. g. september 2018: can use corporate identity i. e. bdo (colours, letterhead, typeface) Summary/synopsis of main points of the report: briefly covers the aims/objectives/research methods + key findings of the report, may also identify what action is required (recommendations, can be thought of as a miniature version of the report.
