Document Summary

Results from a response to an internal or external stimulus. The (cid:374)ervous syste(cid:373) s respo(cid:374)se to a sti(cid:373)ulus (cid:272)arried out (cid:271)y the (cid:373)us(cid:272)ular or hormonal system. Behaviour can identify individuals as members of the same species e. g. bird calls. Assumes that animals of the same species can communicate effectively. Concerned with the mechanisms underlying the behaviour. Includes: environmental stimulus, genetic and physiological mechanisms. Mate seeking behaviour in moths is triggered by pheromone detection. Concerned with evolutionary significance of behaviour and why it is favoured by selection. Typically to do with maximising reproductive success. Combination of genetics and environment: genetic aversion to predators- avoid predators without learning or having encounters them, learnt behaviour occurs also. Batesian mimicry- mimicking the characteristics of a poisonous or unpalatable species to avoid predation.
