oCommonly caused by viruses – esp. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)
oRarely caused by bacteria
oRarely caused in adults (common in babies <12 months)
oSymptoms: irregular and noisy breathing, fever, runny nose, cough
Pneumonia
oLasts for several months
oCommonly caused by bacteria (can also be viral, fungus, parasites)
oShare symptoms of cold AND acute bronchitis AND asthma (particularly shaking, shivering,
sweating, bloody mucus)
oList the criteria of severe pneumonia:
Respiratory rate > 30/min
Diastolic BP < 60 mmHg
