2. Explain the complete ovarian and uterine cycles
3. Understand the hormonal mechanisms that regulate female reproductive functions

Lecture objectives: describe the structure and function of the female rep, explain the complete ovarian and uterine cycles, understand the hormonal mechanisms that regulate female reproductive functions. Role: produce and release gametes, nutrition and safe harbour for the, give birth (cid:0) developing foetus. In order to achieve these roles, the female has specific: anatomical structures, hormones according to the cycle levels change. Some oocytes don"t manage to make: can lead to endometriosis it into the tube and are lost in the peritoneal cavity! The vagina: the vagina provides a passageway to, eliminate menstrual fluids, receive the penis during intercourse, expel foetus during child birth (cid:0) It is a thin walled tube, 8-10cm long (cid:0: both muscular (smooth muscle) and elastic (cid:0, acidic environment helps keep the vagina free of infection but makes it hostile to sperm. Interestingly, teenagers have not developed an acidic environment, making them more susceptible to stds.
