The moral basis for kinship is based on approval, prohibition and social referencing. In contrast, cooperation is rule which is used for out group members where trust, give and take and cooperation are the basis for moral rules. Empathy and sympathy provide the basis for violence inhibition mechanism. Blair proposes that vim is what inhibits people from hurting one another. Vim is activated by non-verbal communication of stress (sad facial expression etc), which then initiate a withdraw response, followed by activation of a scheme predisposing the individual from making an attack (4-7yrs). Kids with vim will be negatively reinforced following an action that results distress cues in the victim. Kids without vim will not be negatively reinforced.
