They know a good deal about media texts, techniques, and technologies, and in particular they know about genres: can broaden the market appeal by attracting audiences who like different genres , it can unsettle audience expectations and provide fresh pleasures and surprises, can challenge cultural norms and ideas by reworking the conventions and characters that are usually used to convey the dominant ideology.
