Ersc 1p92 assignment 3: an earthquake consists of a few different parts, which are the focus or hypocenter, epicenter, wave front, and ray path. These are known as the anatomy of the earthquake and are all-important elements. The focus of an earthquake is also commonly called the hypocenter. This is located in the center of an earthquake and all of the energy releases from this specific spot. The beginning of an earthquake also starts at the focus; the ground cracks at this spot sending waves in all different directions. Since we know that a hypocenter is commonly called a focus, we will next discuss epicenter. The epicenter of an earthquake on the other hand is found to be directly above the focus or hypocenter of an earthquake. 5827019 occurs, the first wave to strike the crust of the earth would be p-waves (primary waves).
