*health research proposal - first set of presentations start sept. 27th. Trying to get people in poor health, back to good health. Does the bacteria in this water cause cholera. Intervene with something that will change the outcome. How health research has impacted our lives - vaccination, treatments, cures for diseases. Waterborne virus that affected children especially, in the summer when children would go swimming because it was in the water where they were swimming. Starting to see polio again in war-torn countries where people cannot vaccinate their children. Only country who did anything to stop the spread of the influenza. Simple research application = profound health effects (african village example) Health issue: contaminated water is the only source for up to 50% of people in the developing world. Research finding: many pathogens are killed by heat and uv radiation exposure.
