An articulation disorder is the atypical production of speech sounds. A phonological disorder is characterized by substitution, omission, additions or distortions that interfere with intelligibility. Fluency is individual"s ability to produce speech effortlessly and automatically- smooth and with expected rate and rhythm of speech. Fluency disorder disruptions in the rate, rhythm and smoothness of speech. Sounds (ssssssssssssoup) - you have airflow but the articulators do not move. Use of interjections and movements to distract and control stutter. Stuttering in response to emotional trauma or stress i. e. abuse , conflict, stress. Lack of pauses between words; run-on sentences. 4-5 % of population report stuttering at some point. 50%-70-% of people who stutter have a family member who stutters. Stress and cognitive delay can cause stuttering. 7-10% of speech that is disfluent is average, anything more can be considered stuttering.
