Document Summary
Only beings with an understanding of being can raise the question of being. Chapter 1: the necessity, structure and priority of the question of being. The question of what it means to be has been long forgotten and not been investigated since plato and aristotle. Being is said to be the most universal and emptiest concept and resist accurate definition. Perhaps it doesn"t even need definition because everyone already uses it and knows what others mean by it. There are three prejudices of ancient ontology that must be discussed so the necessity of resurrecting the question of being becomes clear. 1) being is the most universal concept. An understanding of being is contained in our understanding of those we deem beings. Being is not a genus and so if we just accept its understanding is contained in all beings, we may leave out some species of being. The concept of being is the most obscure of all despite being universal.
