Document Summary

Climate is the long term weather conditions in a given area: 4 factors affect: temperature, precipitation, sunlight, wind. Can be modi ed by season variation, large bodies of water, mountain ranges: seasons. Day length, solar radiation, temperature, changing angle of sun, wind. Latitudinal variation: sunlight strikes @ the tropics, higher latitudes strikes @ oblique angles. Ocean currents: heat or cool overlying air masses. Oceans tend to moderate surrounding land masses. !1: during the day = land is warmer than water, cool breeze is drawn to cool land, night = water warmer than land, cooler air is drawn out towards the water. Cool air ows inland (water > mountain), moderating temperature near shore. Air ows upwards & releases moisture on windward side. Cooler/dry air ows down the leeward side of the mountain, air will warm/ expand: absorbing moisture > creates a rain shadow. Affects the amount of sunlight reaching an area: 2 types: micro/macro.
