The fall of israel happens for very mundane political reasons. Syria wants to expand and conquer egypt; however, israel is in the way. Israel is essentially non-signi cant here, but, they provide the perspective we look at con icts. Israel and judea constantly see themselves in between con icts. Josiah is in power when syria has lost power and babylonia is forming. Josiah begins to centralize religious worship in jerusalem, forcing the population to consolidate and unify around a signi cant material. It must be noted that the account of kings is likely highly fabricated (solomon"s empire in particular). Ahab"s reign did in fact stretch far out as far as domascus and mohab. Omri and ahab is a legitimate account of international politics. Kings here mostly over the desert, while northern kingdom (samaria) has lush workable land, meaning that the northern kingdom has an advantage over israeli kings. Samaria rst, essentially leaving jerusalem as a afterthought.
