Lecture 1 - covered the history of sex research. Wanted to gain a scientific understanding of the motivation behind sexual behaviours. Thought that sexual perversions were the norm Erogenous zone = part of the skin or mucosa membrane that is exreemly sensitive to stimulation. Not resolving these stages correctly leads to sexual dysunction. Dr. kinsey founded the institute for sex research that is still around today. He was concerned with the validity of his findings so he used checks for consistency. He was concerned with bias in his interviewers- so he used multiple raters. 4% of research subjects identify as completly homosexual. No people of colour, no minoritites (the sample was not well respresented) One of the first research teams to actually study the act of sex in the lab. Sexual response cycle exciement, plateau, orgasm, resolution. Hypothesized that a blood born substance was responsble for male sexual characteristics.
