Document Summary

According to plato"s theory of knowledge as recollection, we can know the imperfect objects of sense experience, and experience of these imperfect objects can help us to know the real. Plato thinks there are two worlds, the empirical world of sense experience and the real world of the forms. The empirical world of sense experience consists only of imperfect representations/reflections/imitations/copies of the real. He thinks that before entering this world we had direct experience of the forms, but through the traumatic experience of entering this world, we have forgotten most knowledge of the forms. However, it is only with this innate knowledge of the forms with which we enter this world, are we able to navigate it. E. g. without the innate knowledge of what a chair is, i would never be able to recognize a chair as a chair in my experience, and the same goes for every other object of experience.
