Deviance as a dangerous behavior: people constitute a threat to others in society, people are feared sometimes due to their ethnicity or their roots (location) Deviance is the product of a process which involves the responses of other people to the behaviour. Clarifies rules, tests them and their validity. Alternative means of achieving goals: ex sugar daddies to become rich. Provides a safety valve to let out anger. Releases tensions and enforces solidarity: more extreme behavior=higher group solidarity.
