Schooling: formal systematic instruction, takes place primarily in classrooms, a deliberate planned efort to impart scientiic skills or information. Formal curriculum: the content of the various academic subjects. Hidden curriculum: aspects of the school environment that convey messages to you as students about the culturally valued ways of thinking and behaving (eg. attitudes of peers, teaching ways etc. ) Human capital theory role of schools is primarily economic, to generate needed job skills. Both individuals and governments invest their time and dollars in schools because they believe it will lead to prosperity schools organized to maximize student skills. Argument 1: fewer high skilled jobs are available than the graduates of high schools and universities. Argument 2: weak connections between school and workplace (eg. essay writing, parabolas) Professionalization control occupational standards by setting the educational requirements for their profession.
