Rules and their enforcement: the making, breaking & reaction of public to rules & rule-breaking vary overtime, lots of discretion involved in the way laws are enforced. Deviance vs. crime: not all deviant acts are criminal, but all crimes are deviant, crime always involves breaking a law (the c. c. Emile durkheim: social integration is necessary for the smooth function of society, rate of suicide as a rate of social disorganization, some groups have higher rates & they vary.
