There are two main ways humans effect the climate: land use (including depletion of resources), emissions/residues from products and industrial processes. Engineers play a big role in environmental issues, because their designs/concepts can either break quickly, use more resources, consume more energy and so on. Is there another material that is better for the environment: manufacturing processes: going from raw material to finished material. Every step has waste: energy use: usually, the less energy it uses, the better it is. Lca is life cycle analysis which will be discussed in depth later on. Industrial ecology: is a systems view in which one seeks to optimize the toall materials cycle from virgin material, to finished material, to component, to product, to obsolete produce and co ultimate disposal. Sustainable development: is when development is made in such a way that the needs of the present society are met without compromising the ability for next generations to meet their own needs.
