-using course and outside material, get a sense of what was known about HIV at the time, what
treatments were available? What issues were discussed? How well known was the virus, sorts of
discussions, sorts of coverage HIV/AIDS had at that time, what was the treatment involved
-what is the artist's relationship to ppl living w HIV/AIDS (relationship w HIV/AIDS)
-Who's the artist? Is the artist personally affected? How?
-context/audience
-is this a big budget Hollywood film? A movie only available at specialized festivals? Widely
exhibited/distributed? Was the work's presentation controversial? Who would have been likely to
see it?
-what did reviewers think about it?
-Use this research to better understand the artist's intention
-Do you think it was successful?
*if ever retrospective of that artist's work
*point of this research - don't necessarily need to do extensive work bc fairly short paper
-couple of sources - peer reviewed or major media sources
-trying to piece together what the artist's intention was and if you think it's successful

-1200 critical contextual review of your selected work/artist
-your paper should:
-present/describe the work (apprx 200 words)
-discuss the artist's intentions (thru interviews, conclu based on your research (4-500 words)
-offer the context for the piece - who was it for, how it was received, whether you believe the
artist's intentions were realised (500 words)
-bibliography and cover page

-cite your sources consistently thru the text using a standard citation style
-include a cover pages and bibliography that are NOT part of the word count
-take the time to organize your ideas and present them logically
