Living close to the land in harmony meant limiting technology that would be destructive to it it. Land can be occupied: criminal law: crime was the responsibility of civil society , in the form of groups, clans of families. The(cid:396)e is little to no formality in the way that that disputes gets resolved. Additionally there are usually no judiciaries (except for with the aztecs). The law is therefore directly applicable, creating no costs or procedural barriers. A case will continue until it has been settled, as there are no formal procedures or time restrains. The chthonic tradition is limited, however, by the fact that no appeal is possible: within chthonic traditions the position of humans was significantly different compared to the centuries that followed.
