Land: to a soil depth of a few meters: biomes are the major types of communities found in broad geographic areas, populations of species can look very different across different climates. Terrestrial biomes: plants make up majority of the living biomass of most terrestrial biomes, distinguished by, their predominant plants, their association with particular climates, characteristic animals adapted to that particular environment. In northern limit of plants, poor soils and permafrost (soil constantly frozen) Short summers cause explosion of plants and animals, large migration and native mammals.
