Document Summary

Sosa 1003 lecture 1 september 5, 2018. Identify the social relations that surround you, permeate you, and influence your behaviour. Summarize the four main schools of sociological theory. Sociology is the systematic study of human behavior in social context (how a human behaviour is shaped by a specific social context) Social structures are stable patterns of social relations. Sociological imagination is the quality of mind that enables one to see the connection between personal troubles and social structures. He called the ability to see these connections the sociological imagination. An important step in broadening your sociological awareness involves recognizing that four levels of social structure surround and permeate us: Microstructures are patterns of intimate social relations formed during face-to-face interaction. Families and friendship cliques are examples of microstructures. Mesostructures are patterns of social relations in organizations that involve people who are often not intimately acquainted and who often do not interact face to face.
