It is common knowledge in the research field of information systems that data must have certain characteristics to ensure its integrity. These characteristics are as follows: the data must be true: It is essential to be able to trust and rely on accurate information. This characteristic may seem obvious but can be overlooked. A report may present data that seems accurate but mistakes can be made in the data entry processes and generate errors or inaccurate results. A critical eye must be kept at all times and results must be challenged if something seems odd. Organizations must implement data entry validation steps (quality assurance): the data must be complete: It is important to have the full picture of the situation and all the facts. Partial data can be as detrimental as no data. Data must be complete and taken into its proper context so that it is interpreted correctly.
