Social psychology: the scientific study of the way in which people"s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the real or imagined presence of others. Both are concerned with the influence of social factors, but differ on the level of analysis. Psychology focuses on the individual, and emphasizes the psychological processes. Sociology is more concerned with the broad societal factors that influence events. It tends to discuss social class, structure and institutions.
