Occurs in the nucleus: rna polymerase binds to the promoter region, rna polymerase zips down the length of the gene, matching rna nucleotides with complementary dna nucleotides this forms messenger rna (mrna) The transcription unit is the area that will be transcribed. Proteins required for transcription will bind to the promoter to form the transcription apparatus.
