Document Summary

7pm november 2nd midterm -last lecture on 2nd midterm- Dna: double stranded, each nucleotide composed of sex ribose, phosphate and n base, 4 bases: a, t, g, c. Rna: single stranded, composed of ribose, phosphate & n base, 4 bases: a, c, g & u (uracil). A gene: a dna sequence that determines the shape of a protein/s. The dna stores information required to make every protein the cell. Messenger rna: transfers the info from the dna to the machine (ribosome) which translated the mrna code into a sequence of amino acids. Gene: 3" starts with a atg (start), ends with taa (stop). Occurs in the nucleus: rna polymerase binds to the promoter region, rna polymerase zips down the length of the gene, matching rna nucleotides with complementary dna nucleotides this forms messenger rna (mrna) The transcription unit is the area that will be transcribed. Proteins required for transcription will bind to the promoter to form the transcription apparatus.
