Result is two identical diploid cells: germ cells; which are found in the reproductive organs/system divide in a process called meiosis. Genes are the functional units of heredity and are found along a stretch of. Specific location of a gene or dna sequences on a chromosome is called a locus. Alleles; one of two or more alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the same place on a chromosome. They show their effect even if the individual only has one copy of the allele. Ex: the allele for brown eyes is dominant, therefore you only need one copy of the "brown eye" allele to have brown eyes. They only show their effect if the individual has two copies of the allele.
