Some things are fairly certain - gravity/etc: the nature of gravity, of the earth, etc. though is something we don"t really understand, temporary consensus - deals with empirical evidence/theories bringing it together, generates predictions for future experiments. Scientists make predictions impossible to test until years down the line. Science doesn"t give you everything, and science is not truth: purely a method. (but does lots of things and we need it, no such thing as a purely objective science. Your frame of view influences your opinion (socially determined discourses). Arts and humanities: no hierarchies over time (better/worse) Social sciences: scientific method seeks to eliminate things that don"t fit into the dominant theory (there is a hierarchy) **listen to harry collins" podcast** (link on slide) - could be exam tested. If we become more rational, we can make life better and better forever: art - tried to get better and better.
