Sustainable development definition efficient, socially equitable and ecologically sustainable economic development uses/ mobilizes all members of society in decision making process. Sustainability movement old environmental movement not use minorities: focus is on green issues (conservation of parks and wildlife) Just sustainability ensure better quality of life for all in a just and equitable manner while being able to support the ecosystem: social needs and welfare are also met. Environmental justice poor people are biggest victims of environmental distruction and pollution: some cultures are more environmentally sound then others, environmental injustice- population burdens in areas primarily inhabited by disadvantaged ethnic groups. What actually is impactful in the lives of the poor = gaining resources. Wilderness impacts people living close to land. Needing open space is a new world problem. Project tiger- negative impacts; protect tiger habitat ended up displacing allot of people; motivated by private gain: being the leading edge of the environmental movement. Conservation efforts are made for recreational purposes.
