E. g. , lever pressing or flipping on a light switch. The behavioral response is a volitional, flexible type of exploratory behaviour. In practical terms, when a lever appears in a rat"s cage for the first time, the rat will reflexively look at it and approach it. These will be followed by flexible exploratory behaviors, such as lever pressing.
