Attribution Theory: the study of how people understand the causes of events
Importance of Causal Attribution
• Extremely pervasive
• Affects emotional and behavioral responses to one another
Explanatory Style - Aka Attribution style
• A person’s habitual way of explaining events
• Three dimensions:
1. Internal/External
2. Stable/Unstable
3. Global/Specific
What caused this behavior?
Internal- it’s a part of you VS external- it happened due to the situation.
Stable happens often VS unstable you will not do it again (has to do with situation)
