How you perceive a religion when you approach it is what actually shapes that tradition: unity and diversity within world religions. We can form it, interact with it or thwart it. It"s necessary to consider how one thinks about religions; a study of theories and methodologies (russell mccutcheon: narrow definition of religion: insiders to a tradition. Obligatory practices such as praying regularly, prohibitions such as refraining from certain acts such as murder or adultery and beliefs (gods, scriptures, and afterlife). There is a tendency for people to define religion too narrowly, often from the perspective of their own backgrounds and culture: broad definition: general definition provided to insiders and outsiders, laypersons and scholars. It is that collection of thoughts, beliefs, and values, which most shapes the character of their lives, upon which they base their most important decisions, and for which they may even be willing to give up their lives.
