Hox gene: taxa with simpler body structures fewer hox genes, phylogenetic comparisons provide important evidence that hox genes. Gene duplication: this much complexity: one or more genes may be accidentally duplicated genome has two copies, less efficient organism (selected against, allows for innovation, one copy can serve old function, one evolves to new function.
