Iliad Plot
Book 1
- 9 years after start of Trojan war, poet invokes aid of a muse to tell story of rage of
Achilles
- Greeks capture Chryseis and Briseis- Agamemnon takes Chryseis, Achilles Briseis
- Chryseis’ father is a priest of god Apollo, Agaeo refuses to give her back to him
- Chryses prays to Apollo for help, Apollo sends plagues on Greeks
- Agamemnon will only give up Chryseis if Achilles gives him Briseis, humiliates him
- They’re aout to kill eah other he Athea ad Nestor get the to stop\
- Agamemnon gives back Chryseis and steals Briseis
- Achilles refuses to fight any battle now, Thetis will ask Zeus for help
- Zeus agrees to help Trojans, though Hera is furious
Book 3
- Trojans march to meet Greeks
- Paris, ho stole Meelaus’ ife Hele, halleges Greeks to single combat with anyone
- Menelaus steps forward and Paris pussies out until Hector is like get ur ass in there
- Paris is like, this is the be all end all battle, u can go home when this is over
- Aphrodite hisks hi aay to Hele i Pria’s palace, they fuck
- Greeks insist they won since Paris is nowhere to be found
Book 6
- Greeks winning, Trojans draw back toward city
- Hector goes to Troy to tell women to pray to Athena
- Paris is like, I cant fight I’ too sad
- Helen and Hector are like wtf u big baby ur going to go fight
- Hector meets Andromache and their son, loving family moment. She begs him not to go
back, convinced he will die, but he says he must meet whatever his fate is
Book 7
- Hector offers himself for one-on-one combat, Great Ajax is chosen in lottery
- They tie, and become friends
- Paris is asked by fellow Trojans to give up Helen, he refuses
- Both sides agree on a day for burials
- Greeks take the day off to build a wall
Book 9
- Achaeans think they’re gonna lose the war, Agamemnon proposes returning to Greece
- Diomedes and Nestor remind him that they’re destined to win, and perhaps should
make amends with Achilles
- Agamemnon selects best men and a shit ton of gifts to send to Achilles
- Achilles is found sadly playing the lyre with Patroclus, rejects offer directly

- Patroclus begs Achilles to let him borrow his armour to trick Trojans
- Achilles agrees only if Patroclus will only fight long enough to save ships
- Arming scene
- Trojas flee at the ere sight of Ahilles’ arour, Hetor iluded
- Sarpedo, Zeus’ so, dies, there is fight oer his arour
- Zeus decides to kill Patroclus
- While Trojans retreat, Patrolus does’t liste to Ahilles ad pushes Trojas all the ay
to Troy

- Achilles learns Patroclus is dead, and vows to kill Hector, though if he chooses to be a
warrior he is fated for an early death
- Thetis promises to get Hephaestus to make a new armour for the next day
- Iris tells Achilles to merely make an appearance on battlefield, so he goes out and
sreas ad Trojas ru aay. Gets Patrolus’ ody
- Trojans want to retreat to city but Hector is a cocky shit and insists on fighting
- Greeks mourn Patroclus
- Hephaestus makes an extraordinary shield, with pictures of Life (children, pastures,
constellations, cities)
